Home Start loan: MBH Bank has raised the stakes
MBH Bank has raised the stakes with the Otthon Start loan: the amount of credit that can be collected can be up to 350,000 forints. According to experts at BiztosDöntés.hu, other banks are expected to follow suit, which will benefit loan applicants.
The dominance of Otthon Start on the home loan market has generated serious competition among Hungarian banks, as four-fifths of the home loans issued in recent months have already been subsidized. In 2026, competition may intensify further, which, according to BiztosDöntés.hu experts, will mainly manifest itself in discounted initial fees and larger credit amounts. MBH Bank’s new promotion fits well into this process and clearly shows that banks are especially keen on those requiring larger loan amounts.
MBH Bank will increase the amount of available credit to 230,000 forints from February 12th if the amount of the disbursed Otthon Start loan is at least 10 million forints, but does not reach 30 million forints, and the loan applicant has one of the specified account packages (Premium, Priority Partner, Partner Plus, Discount or Discount Plus) at the time of concluding the loan agreement. Another condition is that the account held at the bank must receive a credit of at least HUF 250,000 per month until the end of the term. (Previously, the available amount was HUF 200,000, and a credit of HUF 350,000 was expected, which is a significant relief.)
Another novelty is that if the loan amount reaches HUF 30 million, the credit amount can be up to HUF 330,000, which is currently the highest offer under these conditions. (Otherwise, this can only be exceeded by opening a double account as a new customer and taking out home and repayment insurance.)
However, it has not changed that you will still receive an additional 20,000 forint credit if the customer signs a Fundamenta-Lakáskassza contract between the acceptance of the Otthon Start application and the disbursement, and agrees to pay it according to the signed terms. This means that at MBH Bank you can get a credit of up to 350,000 forint in addition to the 3 percent interest loan.
