A new Penny opens where there is no competition
Penny, currently a chain with more than 230 stores, plans to build a new store in Simontornya, in the area next to the Mol filling station.
Referring to the information, the city’s municipality announced that the technical design documentation required for authorization had been completed, and the Department of Construction and Heritage Protection of the Tolna County Government Office had granted a construction permit. This may be unusual, as foreign chain stores are not always allowed to open new stores due to the mall closure.
Penny currently has no competitors in the city, Simontornya has no Auchan, Tesco, Spar, Aldi or Lidl stores.
Penny Hungary already consists of more than 230 stores, and in 2022 it was seventh on Trade Magazin’s top list, with a gross turnover of HUF 489 billion.
