OTP Mobil: We know that changing passwords is critical, but we still don’t do it
According to a recent survey, although three quarters of the population believe that passwords used on online platforms should be changed at certain intervals, one third of them do not. What’s more, a fifth of internet shoppers use the same access ID on all platforms. However, to use the Internet safely, it is essential to be aware of such basic privacy settings. That is why OTP Mobil launched an educational, online information campaign, in which it provides Internet users with practical, easy-to-use advice and tips.
More than twenty percent of Hungarian users have already become victims of online fraud, and the perpetrators of cybercrimes use increasingly creative means to ensnare their victims, deceiving even routine internet users, the Médiaunió Foundation announced at the end of last year. In order to protect various interfaces and data, there are already quite a few data security solutions to choose from, but there are still people who are not aware that choosing the right password can do a lot for their security.
Although three-quarters of Hungarians believe that IDs should be changed from time to time on online interfaces, almost one-third of those affected do not do so, according to the survey conducted by OTP Mobil. A comparison of the data also shows that 36 percent of the population still changes their password less often than they think is necessary. According to 29 percent of the respondents, it is enough to change the codes every year, 17 and 18 percent think that every six months or every quarter, and 12 percent think that this step should be done every month. At the same time, 14 percent of the population still say that there is no need to update it at all. Young people (ages 18-39) who are most active online do not change their passwords (37 percent).
