Potatoe production decreased by one-fifth last year, compared to 2008
Twenty percent less potatoes were grown in Hungary, in 2009, compared to 2008. Last year, the production area decreased by 4000 hectares and 521 thousand tonnes of potatoes was harvested with a 4 percent lower yield.
The per capita consumption is 60 kilograms a year in Hungary, which is more than the French (49 kg), but below the 121 kg polish consumption.
Import potatoes are the 5 percent of the domestic crop, but offered at a lower price, compared to the domestic potatoes. One kilogram potatoe is 120 HUF in the market and 120-150 HUF in the shops – reports Teol.hu.
