The Rádium Kft. plans five to six thousand tons of melon exports
The mostly cool weather has caused damages in the eastern Hungarian melon plantations, where 15 to 30 percent of the plant died out – said Für László, the managing director of the region's largest watermelon producer integrator and exporte, Nyíregyháza-based Rádium Kft. to MTI on Friday.
He added that the previously planted melons were affected badly in Békés, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg counties by the frosts of April 10.
The Nyíregyháza-based Rádium Kft. has integrator relationships in Szolnok and Szabolcs counties this year with 100 melon producers.
According to the plans this year, the company will buy 5-6 thousand tons of melons from the farmers and will transport them for export. The 5-6 million kilograms of melons will be sold in the northern European countries, the company has contracts with supermarket chains. (MTI)
