Autumn excursion and wine tasting in the Etyek-Buda wine region
The autumn period offers a perfect opportunity for those who like active tourism, as visitors can enjoy a pleasant excursion at this time. Hungary’s wine regions, including the Etyek-Buda wine region, entice those interested with special program opportunities, be it wine tasting, hiking or cultural explorations.
The Etyek-Buda wine region is an ideal weekend excursion destination, especially for those who love wine, nature and the proximity of Budapest. The more than 150-year-old cellars hidden among the vines and hills and the countryside offer unadulterated tranquility. The area is criss-crossed by many hiking trails, along which you can find sights such as the Nyakas stone or the Szily chapel. The Töröjugrató lookout offers a stunning panorama of the surrounding area, while the Alcsúti Arboretum tempts nature lovers with its spectacular autumn colors.
If you have time, it is also worth visiting the nearby Zsámbé, where the ruined church built in the 13th century awaits visitors with a magical atmosphere. During the summer months, outdoor performances in the garden of the church add color to the cultural offer.
The Etyek-Buda wine region enchants visitors not only with its wines, but also with its gastronomic offer. The settlements in the region, especially the former Swabian villages, are famous for their traditional foods such as pig cheese and stifolder. At the restaurants around Etyek, you can taste these local flavors, which can be perfectly paired with the tight, characterful white wines typical of the wine region.
The other part of the Etyek-Buda wine region also extends to the area around Lake Velence, where the local white wines go well with light fish dishes and fresh flambés. On the northern shore of the lake, restaurants offering roasted meats to go with red wines await guests.
