We are going on holiday for a total of HUF 327,000 this year
Middle-aged Hungarians spend roughly ten percent more on vacation this year than in 2023. Compared to the low point in 2021, this year travelers are already paying 80 percent more, according to the K&H Safe Future survey, which examined the travel plans of 30-59 year olds. At the same time, the travel math looks different in euros.
Those who are going to rest and travel this year will spend an average of HUF 327,000 on recreation, according to the K&H Safe Future survey conducted in the first quarter of 2024. This is a considerable increase compared to the low point of the year 2021, which was affected by the coronavirus epidemic, when the planned annual travel budget was only HUF 183 thousand. In the following years, the estimated average rose to HUF 247,000 in 2022 and HUF 296,000 in 2023. The growth rate therefore decreased slightly compared to last year when calculated in forints, but it is worth looking at how the planned expenses developed on a euro basis, since the Hungarian currency weakened compared to the levels of 2021.
Calculated with the 2021 exchange rate of slightly less than 359 forints registered by the central bank, more than 510 euros went on vacation that year. A year later, despite the euro exchange rate rising to 391 forints, those involved could count on 631 euros, while last year, based on the exchange rate of 382 forints, the same amount was almost 775 euros. On a euro basis, instead of the forint-denominated 80 percent, there was only a 52 percent increase compared to 2021.
