It’s really worth coming together: Lidl and its customers make Christmas more beautiful for 2,000 disadvantaged children
Lidl Hungary’s festive collaboration this year proved that the power of joint assistance can bring tangible miracles even in the midst of the Christmas season. With the help of its customers, the company donated food donations to three organizations that represent a cause that is of utmost importance to it, working with children, in proportion to the customer votes, totaling 20 million HUF. In light of the results, the Heti Betevő Association received the most votes, thus receiving the largest donation, worth nearly 12.8 million HUF, while the Etesd Foundation and the Szeretet a Válasz Association will receive donations worth 3.6 million HUF each.
One of the most important elements of Lidl Hungary’s social responsibility activities is the regular support of disadvantaged children and their families. The company regularly supplements this with a unique campaign or initiative, such as the donation campaigns announced as the Christmas holidays approach. The discount chain calls on its customers to join forces every year, and this year was no different. In the holiday assistance campaign launched with the slogan “Doing it for others? It’s really worth it!”, customers could vote on Lidl’s Facebook page from November 24 to December 11 for the three selected causes and the three foundations they liked the most or whose goals they agreed with the most, thus increasing the value of the support intended for the given organization.
“We believe that the true strength of the community is shown by cooperation, which Lidl customers prove from time to time, as they enthusiastically support all of our donation campaigns. This time, “Doing it for others? It’s really worth it.” In the case of our Christmas campaign, thanks to the active participation of our customers, 2,000 disadvantaged children can now receive treats under their Christmas trees that can be included in their healthy diet, worth a total of HUF 20 million. We are proud that together we were able to help organizations that work every day to create a healthier and happier environment for children,” said Zita Szlavikovics, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Lidl Hungary.
The three beneficiaries work in different fields, yet for the same goal: to provide children with healthier, happier and more experience-rich everyday lives.
- Heti Betevő Egyesület – helps feed families in need, with special attention to children. They can now make 1,276 children’s Christmas more beautiful with the food donation from Lidl.
- Etesd Alapítvány – introduces young people to health-conscious and sustainable eating through gastro-education sessions. With their participation, 360 needy child can be happy with the food package.
- Love is the Answer Non-profit Association – supports children’s exercise, sports and active lifestyle. They will deliver the donation to a little over 364 underage children in need.
The company offered a food donation worth 2 million each to all three organizations, and Lidl customers could decide which organization would receive what proportion of the remaining donation during a vote on Lidl’s Facebook page. Knowing these results, Lidl distributed the 20 million forints worth of food donations, which the organizations will deliver to the disadvantaged children in the form of packages worth approximately 10,000 forints each before Christmas.
