Lidl’s food rescue campaign has expanded to a national level
Lidl Hungary “Save it!” food rescue packages are now available in all 197 stores. Thanks to the measure, fruits and vegetables that are no longer perfect on the outside, but still edible, can be purchased in a unit package at a discounted price, with which the company takes a further step towards reducing food surplus, while contributing to the healthy nutrition of Hungarian families.
Last November, Lidl Hungary launched the “Save it!” food rescue campaign, in order to make available to as many people as possible fruits and vegetables that can be well integrated into a health-conscious diet. The supermarket chain offers its customers vegetables and fruits that are still edible but with minor defects in unit packages, who can get the 3.5 kg mixed packages of vegetables and fruits at an extremely favorable price, for just HUF 399. The packages are now available in all stores in Hungary, on displays at the cash registers.
“As a market-leading retail company, we are aware of our responsibility, which is why we do everything we can to ensure that the food that remains on offer does not end up as waste. Let’s save it! with packages, we want to save vegetables and fruits that are still edible, but are less than perfect on the outside, together with our customers and support them in healthy and sustainable nutrition. With this measure, we want to further expand our commitment to sustainability – because every single piece of food that we don’t throw away is a joint success, a success for us and a step forward on the common path towards a more sustainable future.”
– said Judit Tőssér, the company’s communications manager.
