In preparation for the holidays, the Hungarian Red Cross is holding a nationwide fundraising campaign on Friday and Saturday in cooperation with PENNY Hungary, the aid organization informed MTI on Tuesday, adding that this is the sixth time that up to 50 tons of food and cleaning products can reach those in need through their joint efforts.

On the days of the collection, Red Cross volunteers and staff will be waiting for donations at collection points set up next to the cash registers in 143 PENNY stores across the country between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. They are collecting products that expire at least one month after the date of purchase, the statement said.

They added that

in addition to basic foodstuffs – such as long-life milk, oil, flour, pasta and rice – the shopping list compiled by the Hungarian Red Cross also includes products such as canned food, lemon juice and baby food. These products contribute to strengthening the immune system with their valuable nutritional content.

They drew attention to the fact that anyone who wishes can also support the work of the Hungarian Red Cross by making a monetary donation on the organization’s website.

They quoted Judit Waller-Fekete, the organization’s social professional manager, who emphasized: “the food given to our employees and volunteers this weekend stays on site, our needy fellow citizens living in the area benefit from the donations”.

Eszter Kazatsay, PENNY’s Hungarian communications manager, highlighted that the joint fundraising with the Hungarian Red Cross has now become a tradition, thanks to which they have made Christmas more beautiful for tens of thousands of needy families so far.

The list of stores participating in the collection campaign can be found on the organization’s website at PENNY Hungary, and the shopping list compiled by the Hungarian Red Cross can be found on the organization’s website.
