The price of potatoes increased significantly
In 2013, the price of vegetables increased by 2.2, while the price of fruits increased by 9.9 percent. The price of potatoes increased by 81 percent.
The price is also due to the decline of the growing area. As Szentirmay András, board member of the National Potato Marketing Board told Népszava, that in 2004 potato production in Hungary was carried out on 51 thousand hectares, while now the growing area is only 18 to 20 thousand hectares, while the EU-based field support is only requested for 13 thousand hectares.
