A huge spa closing wave may start in autumn
Hajdúszoboszló and Hévíz are not escaping either – claims the president of the Hungarian Bathing Association, Zoltán Kántás. He explained in detail the components of the impending tragedy to Infostart’s interest, but also talked about its avoidability.
Due to the increase in energy prices and the decrease in the number of guests, even half of the Hungarian spas may close from autumn to the first half of next year.
“Popular places such as Hévíz, Harkány, Hajdúszoboszló or Gyula spas can also be locked temporarily”
– said Zoltán Kántás, president of the Hungarian Bath Association, when we asked.
As is well known, tourism, including the spa industry, went through an extremely difficult 2-year epidemic period this year, and was about to recover from the crisis when the war broke out in Ukraine and energy prices skyrocketed.
“In addition to the increase in energy prices, a significant decrease in guest traffic must also be expected”
– Zoltán Kántás pointed out that many people from the countries east of Hungary used the rich bathing opportunities available in our country; in recent months, the number of visitors has decreased by 20-50 percent compared to expectations.
And the increase in costs does not stop, which is why Zoltán Kántás believes that he is taking a “significant risk” if he continues to operate his spa in the same way as before.
