Viktor Orbán: supermarkets raise prices as price speculators
The big food chains and supermarkets behave like price speculators: they raise prices even in circumstances where there is no basis for it – said Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Kossuth radio Good morning, Hungary! in his Friday show.
The prime minister emphasized: their job is to break inflation, which is why there are price caps, interest caps, the price monitoring system, mandatory promotions and the fact that you can also buy food in stores with a SZÉP card. It seems that “the process we call inflation has begun”, and we can achieve the goal of bringing inflation below 10 percent by the end of the year, he said.
Viktor Orbán said: the big food chains, the supermarkets, behave like price speculators: they raise prices even in circumstances where there is no basis for it.
The Prime Minister emphasized that while the entire country is fighting against inflation, especially food price increases, “unfortunately, there are those who do not take part in this fight and even take advantage of this situation”.
