Manufacturer brands bettered their position
According to the Nielsen Retail Index, last year people spent HUF 9 billion on ham in the Easter holiday period – 6 percent more than a year earlier. As for volume sales, they were also up by 6 percent at 5,500 tons. The volume weighted average price of ham was HUF 1,612/kg last March-April, 2 percent higher than a year earlier. From total ham volume sales manufacturer brands represented 70 percent in March-April of the past two years. In the other two-month periods of last year manufacturer brands’ share was moving between 62 and 66 percent. Ham lovers purchased 70 percent of their ham in stores larger than 400 m² in last March-June and the1-kg or bigger versions were the most popular (68-70 percent).
