Rewe is optimistic
German retailer REWE said all of its business divisions posted higher sales in the first quarter of this year, led by a 9.5 percent year-on-year increase in discount supermarket revenue.
Excluding stores added or closed in the past 12 months, sales were
up 3.6 percent, the company said in a statement. Meanwhile,
supermarket sales rose both domestically and abroad.
In the full-year 2007, sales rose 3.7 percent to 45.1 billion
euros, the highest level ever recorded by the company, while pretax
profit rose 22.2 percent to 735.4 million euros.
The company is optimistic, wants to open 560 new stores by
building and buying units. Half in Germany and abroad.
