Farmers are worrying because of egg prices are the below production costs
Several retail chains are selling eggs below production costs – the statement of the Poultry Products Council (BTT) points out. The production cost of an egg is approx.18 HUF, yet there are also discount actions where the gross prices are around 18.9 HUF (net 14.88 HUF).
Végh László president of the Hungarian Association of Hybrid and Egg Producers added several producers have expanded due to the former good price level, so now there is overproduction in the EU. The real price pressure is mostly due to the black market, not the legal import: through illegal channels a lot of imported eggs arrive to the Hungarian market, that are sold free of VAT. (B.
