Kaufland tests self-service payment in Germany
As reported by Lebensmittel Zeitung, one Kaufland store in Leipzig has been equipped with 12 self-payment machines.
The customers can decide if they want
to pay at one from 24 traditional tills or if they proceed to one of
eight manned scanning only lanes and than pay at one of the machines. The deployed Pay Towers from Wincor
Nixdorf were specifically designed for Kaufland. The hypermarket
operator wanted Wincor to use the design of its ATMs for the machines
to make them look familiar to the customers. The terminals are able
to recycle coins and notes and are also accepting payment by debit
card. Kaufland will decide on a rollout into other stores after the
holiday season.
