DAV Engineering Ltd. has prepared and recently made its sustainability report publicly available on its website. The voluntary step is still a rarity in the construction industry, which is responsible for about a third of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. The company, headquartered in Rácalmás, known primarily for its agricultural halls and its own developed HungaroSpan arch structures, provides quantified data in the document, including on its current emissions of harmful substances, and also formulates specific steps and measurable goals in order to further green its activities.

“In recent years, it has been clearly noticeable in the construction industry that clients are increasingly expressing sustainability awareness as a demand and expectation towards their potential partners. This is especially true for large companies that are already affected or will be affected by the ESG reporting obligation in the near future, as well as for those that operate in multinational markets. That is why we decided to voluntarily publish our results and goals in the field of ESG, which has been a central element of our activities for a long time and has now been organically integrated into our corporate strategy,”

stated the The motivation for the report, which was produced taking into account the guidelines of the internationally accepted GRI standard for 2024, was provided by Tamás Hegyi, CEO of DAV Mérnöki Kft.

The 36-page document shows, for example, that the company’s CO2 emissions per employee were 7.09 tons last year, which is in line with the industry standard, but the company would naturally like to reduce this year by year. The diesel and gasoline consumption, which is responsible for the majority of their emissions (more than 97%), would be reduced by purchasing hybrid and electric vehicles, machinery, and rationalizing transportation processes. In addition, DAV has a strategic goal of optimizing the energy consumption of its buildings, installing additional solar systems, and using recycled packaging materials. The latter is also important because, according to data collection, in 2024, they generated 1.5 m3 of packaging waste per employee during their operations.

In addition to environmental awareness, the general design and construction company also focuses on the social and corporate governance aspects of ESG. As part of their community engagement, they provide support to, among others, the national water polo association, the St. Pantaleon Hospital in Dunaújváros, and a local festival. In addition, they intend to gradually increase the proportion of their female employees and reduce their turnover rate, which is lower than the industry average of 25%, through targeted welfare measures and training.

Who is required to prepare an ESG report?

Following a recent amendment in Hungary, by 2025, large companies of public interest and those companies whose annual revenue exceeded 90 billion forints in the two years preceding the year in question, whose average number of employees is more than 500 and which fall into one of the 26 TEÁOR categories set out in the law are required to prepare an ESG report. their main activity.
