Co-op UK Launches ‘On The Go’ Micro Store Format
Co-op’s On The Go format is one-quarter the size of its typical convenience store with revised operating hours and a tailored product range for busy customers.
The first store under this format opened in Solihull, in the West Midlands, England, on 31 July, the retailer noted.
The retailer plans to open another 15 stores over the coming months with a longer-term goal of expanding the network to several hundred outlets in the next two to three years, ESM reports.
The product offering will include meal solutions throughout the day, including breakfast, lunch and dinner in new formats, ranging from traditional meal deals to hot food served over the counter – a first for Co-op.
The micro stores will also feature a deli selection.
Co-op On The Go
On The Go outlets will support Co-op’s growth ambitions and get closer to consumers with a blend of the best of European and Far East trends of ‘serviced-over’ food-to-go propositions, the company added.
Matt Hood, MD of Co-op Food, stated, “It’s a brand-new concept, which we believe there is a big demand for and which we can meet with delicious products, quick service, good value and spot on locations.“
On-The-Go stores will operate between 7 am and 7 pm, and in the future, turn to ‘dark trading’ in the evening. It will include the preparation and delivery of Co-op’s Irresistible Pizzas.
The move will unlock ‘food for now’ through Co-op’s quick commerce operation, securing a foothold in a new market for the convenience retailer, it added.
