Salami of Szeged a product of protected origin
The European Commission qualified the winter salami of Szeged as a product with protected designation of origin (PDO) on Friday.
The famous flavourful salami was the first Hungarian product put on the EU's PDO list, which already features about 800 items.
The winter salami of Szeged will carry a label with a uniform EU logo and an indication of its PDO quality.
From now on, Szeged salami can only be labelled as such if it comes from the designated region so as to protect its reputation and eliminate the unfair competition and misleading of consumers by non-genuine products, which may be of inferior quality or of different flavour.
