Fruit yogurt has become cheaper, but the price of orange juice has gone up
The prices of products frequently consumed by children have increased by 7 percent in one year. The consumer goods selected in the mini basket compiled by K&H cost a total of more than 42 thousand forints in October this year.
Compared to the basket value of 30 thousand forints typical for October 2021, this is an increase of more than 40 percent. With this calculation, K&H would like to show young people that it is worth getting to know their finances as soon as possible. The playful educational material prepared for this year’s financial competition series for students, K&H Vigyázz, szét, pénz!, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, is a great help in this regard.
The price increase has become more restrained this year compared to last year: annual inflation was 3.2 percent in October this year, according to the latest data from the Central Statistical Office (KSH). At the same time, the prices of some products that are popular among young people or necessary for their everyday lives still show an upward trend. The total price of the products included in the consumption basket compiled by K&H in previous years – cocoa snail, fruit yogurt, hamburger, liter of orange juice, backpack and spectacle frames – increased by 7.4 percent, to more than 42 thousand forints. In the longer term, compared to October 2021, the increase in price is much more significant: since in that month less than 30 thousand forints – 29,161 forints to be precise – had to be paid for these products. Compared to this, there was an increase of more than 40 percent.
