Domestic lettuce became cheaper, imported lettuce more expensive at the beginning of the year

According to KSH data, Hungary’s lettuce exports decreased by 21 percent to 1,660 tons in 2025 compared to a year earlier – primarily to Poland and the Czech Republic. The value of Hungary’s lettuce exports decreased by 22 percent to 647.7 million forints, while the value of imports increased by 17 percent to 536.1 million forints in the observed period. The import of lettuce decreased by 16 percent (to 890.6 tons). The largest supplier remained Spain, from which 400.6 tons (+4 percent) of lettuce arrived.

According to KSH data, the value of imports of other salad crops (excluding lettuce) decreased by 3 percent to 7.45 billion forints, and the revenue from their exports decreased by 2 percent to 3.42 billion forints in 2025. In terms of volume, imports decreased by 25 percent (to 12.6 thousand tons). The largest supplier remained Spain, from which 7.19 thousand tons (–31 percent) of lettuce arrived. Exports decreased by 7 percent, to 6.13 thousand tons in 2025.

The quantity delivered to the largest target market, Romania, decreased by 16 percent to 2.88 thousand tons

According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of domestic lettuce on the Budapest Wholesale Market decreased by 12 percent to 259 forints/piece in the 1st–11th week of 2026 compared to the same period of the previous year. The wholesale price of imported lettuce was 31 percent (392 HUF/piece), that of iceberg lettuce was 2 percent (585 HUF/piece) higher, while that of Lollo-type shredded lettuce was 22 percent (363 HUF/piece) lower in the 1st–11th week of 2026 than a year earlier.
