Metro Partners With Multicedi In Italy, Makro Expands In Spain
Italian wholesalers Metro Italia and Multicedi have partnered to support the HoReCa sector in Southern Italy, namely in the Campania and Molise regions.
In a first for Metro, its private-label brands – Metro Chef, Metro Professional, Rioba, and Aro – will be available through a HoReCa partner’s network, specifically within Multicedi’s Adhoc Cash & Carry stores.
Over 1,800 SKUs will be made available, expanding the product selection for local HoReCa clients.
As part of the deal, Multicedi is also acquiring Metro’s Pozzuoli store, ensuring continued employment for its staff.
This acquisition marks Multicedi’s seventh cash-and-carry location and second directly managed Adhoc store.
David Martínez Fontano, CEO of Metro Italia, commented, “This agreement represents an important step forward in the implementation of our commercial model, strongly focused on customer service.
“A new model of commercial collaboration, which allows us to guarantee access to quality products and services, through innovative distribution models.”
Third Distribution Centre In Tuscany
Metro Italia has expanded its presence in Tuscany with the opening of its third Italian Food Service Distribution (FSD) depot in Pontedera.
This new 9,000-square-metre, eco-friendly facility, part of a larger logistics hub along the Fi-Pi-Li highway, operates continuously, preparing orders in the afternoon for daily deliveries between 07:00 and 19:00.
Makro Boosts Online Presence
Makro is boosting its online marketplace for the HoReCa sector in Spain and Portugal with a new logistics centre in Azuqueca de Henares, Spain.
This 19,064-square-metre facility nearly triples the company’s inventory capacity and currently stocks around 3,600 own-brand products, along with over 250,000 items from marketplace partners.
Managed by Metro Markets, it features advanced logistics technology for efficient order processing, including handling bulky equipment.
This strategic move enhances Makro’s multi-channel business model, offering faster delivery – 24-48 hours in some locations – to hospitality businesses in mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands, and Portugal.
This online growth complements Makro’s existing brick-and-mortar stores and delivery service, expanding its reach to new customers and geographic areas.
