The decline in Czech retail sales accelerated in October
In the Czech Republic, retail sales have been declining for six months. In October, this decrease accelerated to 9.4 percent year-on-year from 5.3 percent in September, the Czech Statistical Office wrote in a statement issued on Tuesday in Prague.
In a monthly comparison, Czech citizens spent 1.8 percent less in October than in September.
“In October, the year-on-year decline in retail turnover, which has been continuous since May, accelerated.
On a monthly basis, the acceleration of the decline can be seen mainly in the field of manufactured goods, but also in food and fuel,” Jana Gotvaldová, the director of the statistical office, told journalists.
In October, the turnover of manufactured goods was 11.2 percent lower than a year ago, for fuels by 8 percent, and for food products by 7 percent.
