According to the relevant decree, if a BSE test is carried out in another member state in the case of bovine species belonging to the categories mentioned in the law and originating from one of the member states listed in the decree, the test age limit prescribed by the member state where the test is performed shall apply.
In accordance with the above legislation, the inspection of cattle slaughtered for human consumption by ordinary slaughter in Hungary is not mandatory – with the exception of cattle older than 30 months, originating from Romania, Bulgaria or 3rd countries.
In addition to the listed exceptions, the decree that also regulates meat inspection does not require BSE sampling in the case of normal slaughter, only the removal of the material that poses a risk of infection and its marking. Pursuant to other relevant decrees, the special hygiene rules for food of animal origin must be fully observed, no additional animal health restrictions will be introduced. The reimbursement fee for BSE testing of cattle will be HUF 7,200 + VAT.
