According to the foundation, Nyuszijogsi was created as a further development of the Gazdijogsi program, which was launched in 2021 and has been successfully operating since then. The new program focuses specifically on keeping rabbits, with particular attention to families and children, as well as the Easter period, when many children receive rabbits as gifts.
In addition to presenting the biological characteristics and behavior of rabbits, Nyuszijogsi emphasizes the responsible decision before starting to keep them
At the presentation of the program, Endre Sós, Director General of the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden, emphasized that rabbits are extremely sensitive animals, and keeping them requires special knowledge. He said that it is important to provide owners with appropriate information from the very beginning, thus preventing later animal health and other problems. Péter Ovádi, Government Commissioner for Animal Protection, emphasized: “Knowledge is the basis of responsible animal husbandry, therefore it is of utmost importance that reliable, understandable and accessible information is available to everyone before making a decision about keeping animals.” According to him, the program represents progress in this regard: it helps prevent irresponsible decisions and contributes to fewer animals being placed in indecent
