Eighty billion pairs of chopsticks are consumed in China every year

A leader of a northeast Chinese wood industrial company named disposable chopsticks as one of the causes of deforestations at the ongoing session of China's parliament: He claims that every year some 80 billion sticks are manufactured in the world's most populous country.

A huge number – 20 cm long, 1 cm high and 0.5 cm wide – stick, the world's largest public square, the Tiananmen Square in Beijing could be covered with  360 times – Po said Kuang-Hsin, the company's first man added.  (MTI)
