Food processing was profitable last year
The volume of agricultural production had sharp fluctuations in the recent years. The 11 percent decline of 2007 was followed by a 28 percent decline in 2008, then in 2009 according to the preliminary datas; gross production decreased by 10 percent.
The deterioration of the food industry continued in 2009, with reduced production and employment, despite the improved profitability. A drastic decline is continued to be characteristic in domestic sales. The nearly 8.3 percent decline of domestic sales was followed by a further 4.6 percent decline in 2009. Food, beverages and tobacco production in 2009 declined by two percent – reports Népszabadság Online.
