Nébih experts examined food bars used in plant nutrition

A total of 20 production-enhancing food bars used in plant nutrition were examined by the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih). Quality objections were found for two products, and for two more products, the manufacturer unlawfully indicated their effects, for which the authority imposed a 3.3 million forint plant protection fine – the office informed MTI on Tuesday.

During the product test of the Supermint program, Nébih experts examined 13 foreign and 7 domestically produced food bars and checked the active ingredient content indicated on the products, as well as the presence of toxic elements. They found that none of the products contained toxic contaminants, but at the same time, quality problems were revealed with two food bars: in one case, the amount of zinc and in the other, the amount of iron was lower than the value indicated on the packaging. The manufacturer had illegally indicated the special label on the packaging, as the products did not meet the promised effect. The official inspectors warned the manufacturer and distributor concerned and called on them to correct the errors, they added.

Due to the unauthorized indication of the plant protection effect, the Nébih initiated the withdrawal of the manufacturer’s other two products from circulation and their official seizure, and the manufacturer was fined 3.3 million forints for the irregularities.
