Growing demand for needles – increased controls
Due to the surge in needle thread demand across the country, deliveries also increased. In the spirit of this, the EUTR authority of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) and the transport authority of the Zala County Government Office conducted a joint inspection again, however – thanks to the accurate information received from law-abiding timber merchants and the public – this time the official raids were much more targeted. There must have been quite a few “handy people”.

With the approach of winter, firewood became a more sought-after product, which also increases the number of violations. Although most firewood dealers and suppliers already know and follow the rules, there are always those who look for ways around them. During joint official inspections in Zala County, some of them tried to convince the inspectors with extremely varied documents, logging permits, and contracts that it was not necessary to fill out the transport ticket completely in their case. Their attempt was unsuccessful: 3 shipments were locked up, in one case further distribution activities were suspended by the experts, and in the case of 9 delinquents, further official control was warranted. discourage transportation without proper documents. During the raid, it was also possible to eavesdrop on shipments from which there is reason to believe that the seller was aware of his buyer’s illegal timber trading activities, but helped him with his own sales. In this case, both companies can expect a thorough investigation.
In many cases, the specialists of the traffic authority took action due to the improper fixing of the firewood or excess weight, in several cases, due to the existence of these together
And one vehicle was ordered for an extraordinary technical inspection. In general, it can be said that the technical condition of the trucks supplying firewood to the public is not satisfactory in Zala county, and in order to reduce transport costs, they are significantly overloaded, which makes their transport particularly dangerous. By the way, from February 2021, these omissions will be considered administrative violations, for which the legislation imposes a significant fine.
At the same time, it was a source of joy that the inspectors came across several carefully assembled shipments that met all the customer’s needs, delivered with exemplary documents. Furthermore, during the inspection, not a single shipment was stopped in which the provisions of the government decree regulating the export of firewood were violated.
