German retailers expect increased Easter sales
German retailers expect sales of €2.3 billion this Easter, representing an increase of 3.8% compared to last year, according to the German Retail Federation (HDE).
According to the HDE survey, conducted by IFH Cologne with 500 consumers, 41% of consumers plan to shop for Easter, with an average spend of around €40 per person. The most popular products are food, which 78% of respondents would give as gifts. In addition, more than half of consumers would buy toys and decorations, and almost one in two would buy flowers for the holidays.
According to HDE General Secretary Stefan Genth, Easter is the second biggest holiday shopping occasion after Christmas. Retailers are therefore hoping that the Easter sales will boost consumer sentiment, which has been subdued for a long time.
