Rising prices and growing egg trade in the EU

According to data from the Hungarian Statistical Office, Hungary purchased 9,000 tons of shell eggs from the international market in the first six months of 2025 (-36 percent compared to the same period of the previous year), of which 7,200 tons of fresh eggs were imported, down 21.5 percent. Shell egg exports decreased by 17.5 percent to 5,100 tons, of which fresh egg exports amounted to 976.1 tons (+61 percent) between January and June 2025. According to data from AKI PÁIR, the packing house price of caged table eggs (M+L) in Hungary was 63.97 forints/piece in the first thirty-two weeks of 2025, which exceeded the average price of the same period in 2024 by 30.3 percent. The packing house price of M size class boxed eggs increased by 28.0 percent to HUF 66.78/piece, and that of L size class boxed eggs increased by 26.0 percent to HUF 77.17/piece. The packing house price of M trayed eggs increased by 31.5 percent to HUF 57.81/piece, and that of L trayed eggs increased by 35.9 percent to HUF 63.97/piece. The packing house price of deep-litter table eggs (M+L) was HUF 72.87/piece in the first thirty-two weeks of 2025, which is 26.9 percent higher than the average price for the same period in 2024.
