SPAR is on a growth track
In 2012 SPAR Hungary realised a HUF 421.5-billion turnover, performing 8 percent better than in 2011. Last year the company continued to develop and refurbish its network of stores, and in addition to this started to build the SPAR franchise system. Several new stores opened in various retail channels and 249 SPAR supermarkets were modernised both inside and outside. At the end of 2012 SPAR’s network consisted of 391 stores (from which 31 were INTERSPAR hypermarkets) with a floor space of 391,289m². SPAR’s own meat processing plant in Bicske manufactured 7,000 tons of private label meat products and packaged 8 million trays of meat. Last year the group’s communication activity was centred on its TANN meat processing plant and the excellent products made there. As a responsible firm, SPAR offered its more than 12,000 employees favourable terms in insurance and banking services, cheap mobile subscriptions and holidays, together with various motivational programmes. In cooperation with the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service, 170,000kg of food and HUF 15 million in donations were collected for people in need last year. In 2012 the company won the 1st FMCG Greennovation Grand Prize and the Ozone Green award. SPAR Hungary managing director Erwin Schmuck told our magazine that for 2013 the company’s plans include continuing its growth-oriented business strategy, investing EUR 40 million in various projects, for instance in increasing the production capacity of the SPAR TANN meat processing plant, in opening new stores and modernising old ones and in expanding the SPAR franchise network.
