Food export growth
In January-July 2010 the volume of export soared by 17 percent and that of import increased by 15 percent, if compared with the base period a year earlier. Foreign trade surplus was HUF 847 billion, HUF 289 billion more than in the same period of 2009. The volume of processed product export grew by 13 percent – import augmented by 11 percent. Food product, beverages and tobacco product export was up by 5 percent in terms of volume; the level of import remained stable. In our trading with EU member states in the first seven months of 2010, the volume of export was 16 percent above the base level and the volume of import was 14 percent higher than the base level. The volume of export to countries outside the EU surpassed last year’s base level by 23 percent – import was 18 percent higher.
