Increase at wellness hotels's winter
In January-February 2008, public accommodations reported 2.7 percent more tourism nights and, at current prices, 8 percent higher revenues.
Due to above average growth, EU guests
spent 9 percent more nights in Hungary, while 13 percent more
international guests were registered in Budapest compared to the
corresponding period of the previous year. In January-February 2008 –
which period, in line with previous experiences, represents 8-10
percent in the yearly guest turnover – commercial accommodations
reported 328 thousand foreign guests and 845 thousand related tourism
nights. 15 percent more visitors and 7 percent more guest nights were
registered compared to same period 2007.
Concerning major source markets, fewer
tourists arrived from Germany and Austria, while there was a
significant increase in case of Romania, Russia and Great Britain. 16
percent more EU travellers and 9 percent more EU tourism nights were
registered compared to same period 2007. Concerning hotel guest
nights only the one star category showed a – 14 percent –
decline, all others experienced growth. Among hotel types wellness
hotels yielded the largest, 13 percent respective growth.
Over the survey period public
accommodations registered 430 thousand domestic guests and 947 thousand domestic guest nights. 6.4
percent more visitors spent 0.7 percent less nights compared to January-February 2007. All hotel
categories – except three star hotels – had more domestic guest
nights.
