Cattle slaughter and exports increased in Hungary in 2025

According to AKI slaughter statistics, in the January-November 2025 period, cattle slaughter in live weight increased by 25 percent compared to the January-November 2024 volume. The slaughter of cows, which account for more than half of all slaughter, increased by 6.3 percent, and that of heifers by 14.7 percent.

According to KSH data, Hungary’s live cattle exports decreased by 31.8 percent (62.1 thousand tons) and their value by 13.1 percent in January-November 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. The main partners were Poland, Israel, Croatia, Italy, Austria and Kosovo. Hungary’s live cattle imports fell by 49.2 percent (8.2 thousand tons) and their value by 39.2 percent compared to the previous year. More than half of the live cattle came from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Latvia. The volume of beef exports increased by 74.7 percent (8.4 thousand tons). The volume of beef imports decreased by 4.9 percent (11.5 thousand tons), while its value increased by 30.1 percent in the observed period. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of a young bull was 2296 forints/kilogram of carcass warm weight in the 1st–3rd week of 2026, an increase of 18.7 percent compared to the previous year. The price of a slaughter heifer was 34.4 percent higher and that of a slaughter cow was 36.5 percent higher in the observed period.
