More expensive juice products increased their market share
In the fruit juice category, sales shifted toward more expensive products with a higher fruit content: the market share of juice grew to 29 percent in value – in December 2009-July 2010, compared with the same period a year earlier, we learn from the Nielsen Retail Index. Annual fruit juice retail sales represent a HUF 40 billion value, but this year in the above mentioned period sales declined by 10 percent in value and by 13 percent in volume. Demand for juices with a 100-percent fruit content grew, partly because they became cheaper: in last June-July the volume weighted average price was HUF 277/litre, but in the same period this year it was only HUF 256/litre. In June-July private label products had a 37-percent volume share in sales. Orange remained to be the most popular flavour.
