EU soybean acreage may increase

In its March forecast, Oil World indicated a global soybean harvest of 425 million tonnes for the 2025/2026 marketing year. This output could be 360 ​​thousand tonnes lower than in 2024/2025. World soybean consumption could be 3.5 percent higher, at 427.6 million tonnes, in the 2025/2026 season. By the end of the marketing year, 121 million tonnes (–2 percent) of soybeans could remain in storage.

According to Expana, soybeans can be sown on 1.12 million hectares in the European Union this year, an area that is about 4 percent larger than a year earlier. In Italy, the area could expand by 3 percent (330 thousand hectares), while in Croatia, seeds could be planted on 90 thousand hectares unchanged. In France and Austria, the crop may occupy 150,000 and 90,000 hectares, respectively. In Poland, the crop area may expand by 10 percent to 110,000 hectares. In Romania, the crop may also cover 110,000 hectares. In Hungary, Expana is calculating an area of ​​60,000 hectares this year. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of soybeans excluding VAT and transport costs was 156.2 thousand forints/ton in the third week of March, 10 percent below the previous year. On the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME/CBOT), the May quotation of soybeans was in the range of 424–431 dollars/ton between March 16 and 27.
