The disease was confirmed by the animal health authority in a breeding goose flock of approximately 6,700 individuals located in the Szügy settlement in Nógrád County. The suspicion of the disease arose due to the nervous system symptoms experienced in the flock and the increased mortality. The Nébih laboratory detected the H5N1 subtype of the virus in samples taken from the affected flock.

The elimination of the flock and the epidemiological investigation are in progress

The authority has also designated 3 km radius protection zones and 10 km radius observation zones around the farm. Nébih once again draws the attention of animal keepers that the avian influenza virus can appear anywhere in the country, even in areas with low poultry density and less risk from the disease. That is why it is most important to minimize the possibility of direct and indirect contact between poultry and wild birds, which can be achieved by strictly and consistently adhering to disease control regulations.
