Increase in global demand for pigs
It seems, the swine flu hysteria did not hurt the industry. The global economy will be more vigorous in 2010, so more pork meat will be sold next year – predicts the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
In Hungary, the number of pigs is decreasing. In the recent years, pig stock decreased significantly, contributing with the weak forint, so pork prices became very high, in the first half of the year. Later a decline has started, but the price of import pork remains lower, than domestic. Meanwhile, the reduced price of pork cuts did not appeared in consumer prices: for example, the price of pork thigh has increased by 10 percent this year, from January to October – reports szabadfold.hu.
