The National Center for Public Health and Pharmaceuticals (NNGYK) has taken measures to ensure the continuous supply of breast milk substitute products after Nestlé Hungária Kft. voluntarily recalled certain infant formulas. The center has contacted the largest distributors and wholesale partners due to the missing items, the authority told MTI on Thursday.

The NNGYK announced in its statement that Nestlé Hungária Kft. extended the voluntary recall of certain infant formulas, infant formulas for special medical purposes and infant formulas for special medical purposes on January 5, 2026. They emphasized that the recall is a precautionary measure, and no confirmed cases of illness have occurred.

Several breast milk substitute products are available to the public, and the production lots not affected by the recall can still be consumed with complete safety – they wrote in the announcement.

Several substitute products are available on the domestic market that are suitable for replacing the affected formulas – they drew attention, recommending that those affected consult their pediatrician about them.

The NNGYK recommends that parents not use the recalled items, and that both opened and unopened products be returned at the place of purchase, with the price will be refunded.

Nestlé Hungária Kft. has created a batch control interface on the nestlebaba.hu/recall website to clearly identify the products affected by the recall, which will help consumers and pharmacies identify the products – the NNGYK announced.

According to the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) on Tuesday, Nestlé Hungária Kft. has recalled milk-based infant formula due to microbiological non-compliance, after the test carried out during self-control revealed the presence of Bacillus cereus revealed the presence of the bacterium cereulide toxin. The company’s comprehensive internal investigation determined that the contamination came from a raw material used in production from a supplier and was transferred to the finished products. According to Nestlé Hungária Kft., no illnesses have been confirmed to be related to the consumption of the affected products as of Tuesday.

Bacillus cereus is a microorganism that occurs widely in nature, often found in raw materials and sometimes in foods, such as rice, milk and dairy products. Certain strains of the bacterium – such as cereulide – can cause food poisoning, and are the most common pathogens in foodborne illnesses, along with Salmonella. Foods contaminated with cereulide can cause severe and persistent vomiting, diarrhea and unusual lethargy in infants 30 minutes to 6 hours after consumption.
