NMHH: We should ensure that our shipments are received even when we are on vacation
When planning your summer vacation, it is worth considering whether you will be expecting a package during your trip and entrusting someone to pick up any packages you may have – among other things, the National Media and Communications Authority (NMHH) warned in a statement on Friday ahead of the holiday season. Experts also remind you that with the arrival of good weather, couriers also go on vacation more often, which means that postal service providers are working with fewer staff, which is why it is especially important to send your packages on time.
According to a statement from the NMHH’s communications directorate sent to MTI, online shopping has been particularly popular in Hungary since the global Covid pandemic, but when planning summer trips, many people tend to forget when they can expect to receive a package they ordered online.
As NMHH experts point out, “when planning your vacation, it is worth adding to your to-do list the organization of who and how to receive your packages that arrive during your trip.”
If you are expecting an important package, you can reschedule the delivery time, for example, to when you are back home, or you can request that the package be redirected to another collection point that is closer to your vacation spot. This latter solution is only possible if you are on vacation in Hungary, but if you are planning a trip abroad, you will need to ask someone to make arrangements for you
– they added.
If you have requested the package to be delivered to a parcel machine, it is relatively simple, as you only need to give the person responsible the collection code. If we are expecting delivery to our home address, we should know that a relative living in the same household as us can receive the shipment in our name without any particular complications, but for a neighbor, for example, to receive the package, our prior approval is required.
Anyone else can only receive the shipment addressed to us with a power of attorney signed by them, which may even require the signatures of two witnesses, as the service providers themselves determine what kind of power of attorney they accept – they wrote.
In the case of packages arriving from abroad, the often longer delivery time and the duration of customs clearance must also be taken into account, and in such cases we must also keep in mind that we may even be liable to pay VAT.
They warned that we cannot ignore these questions, because if we do not deal with their answers in time, we can expect to find ourselves faced with an ever-increasing number of problems.
If the delivery is unsuccessful and we do not claim our letter or package by the specified deadline, the service provider will return it to the sender even if we have already paid for the ordered product in advance.
