S-BUDGET quick-frozen strawberries have been recalled from consumers and withdrawn from circulation by SPAR Hungary Ltd. due to pesticide residue levels above the maximum limit, the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) told MTI on Thursday.

The authority asks anyone who purchased the 1-kilogram product with a best-before date of July 23, 24, November 14, 28, 2027, and January 14, 2028 not to consume it.

According to the announcement, SPAR Hungary Kft., in cooperation with the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority, immediately took the necessary measures within its own jurisdiction.

It was emphasized that pesticides are chemical or biological substances that can be used to destroy living organisms classified as pests by humans, that is, they are poisons by their nature. The use of pesticides is an integral part of modern agriculture, and their use aims to increase yield and improve quality.

The European Food Safety Authority sets limits for the maximum permitted pesticide residues in food based on risk assessments. These limits must be strictly observed and adhered to, and the authorities of the member states continuously monitor compliance with the regulations.

SPAR Hungary Kft. announced on its website that customers can return the product to their stores and the purchase price will be refunded.

At the same time, attention was drawn to the fact that customers can return the disputed items to the stores of SPAR Hungary Kft. until 2026.03.18, after which they can contact the product supplier, Agrosprint Zrt. (info@agrosprint.hu), with a request for return.
