NKFH: TRS brand Indian curry powder recalled due to unauthorized coloring
Based on a notification received through the European Union’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed Safety (RASFF), an unauthorized dye, Rhodamine B, was detected in TRS brand Indian curry powder, which also arrived in Hungary through a Dutch importer. The companies involved in the case have recalled the affected product, called Mild Madras Curry Powder, from consumers, the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) told MTI on Thursday.
The authority requests that anyone who has purchased this 100-gram package of Indian curry powder not consume it.
It was emphasized that the NKFH contacted the companies concerned without delay, which, in cooperation with the authority, recalled the affected items from consumers. The authority is monitoring the measures taken by the companies and the further fate (destruction or removal) of the recalled products.
Rhodamine B is an artificial, strongly coloring industrial dye, the use of which is prohibited in foods as it may be harmful to health and carcinogenic.
