NKFH: mung beans recalled by distributors due to pesticide content exceeding the limit
Distributors have recalled 400-gram packs of GOLDEN CHEF brand mung beans from the market due to pesticide content exceeding the limit value – the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) told MTI on Tuesday.
During an official inspection conducted based on a report received from the European Union’s Alert and Cooperation Network (ACN), pesticide content exceeding the limit value was detected in a mung bean product originating from Thailand. The product was also delivered to several Hungarian companies through a Dutch distributor, the statement said.
It was emphasized that the companies, in cooperation with the NKFH, immediately took the necessary measures within their own jurisdiction and ensured the recall of the affected item from consumers. The measures taken by the companies and the further fate of the recalled products – destruction or transportation – are being monitored.
The statement states that the best before date of the 400 gram GOLDEN CHEF brand mung beans is April 10, 2027, item number 4640. The product is manufactured by Oriental Food Co.,LTD. (Thailand) and imported by Asia Express Food (Netherlands).
It is known that pesticides (also known as pesticides) are chemical or biological substances that can be used to destroy living organisms classified by humans as pests, that is, they are poisons by their nature. The use of pesticides is part of modern agriculture, and their purpose is to increase crop yield and improve quality. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has set a limit value for the maximum permitted pesticide residues in food based on risk assessments. These limit values must be strictly observed and adhered to, and the authorities of the member states are continuously monitoring compliance with the regulations, the NKFH informed.
In the announcement, the authority asks that anyone who has purchased a product with the above batch identifier and is still in possession of the product not to consume it.
