NKFH: Boy Bawang brand fried chicken flavored corn kernels recalled due to undeclared gluten content
Boy Bawang brand, crispy, roasted corn kernels with fried chicken flavor (Snack corn chick Lechon Manok flavor), in a 90-gram package, is being withdrawn from the market and recalled from consumers due to unlabeled gluten content – the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) told MTI on Monday.
They emphasized that consuming the product poses a health risk for sensitive consumers. It may be reported.
It was added that the recalled and withdrawn items have a best-before date of March 14, June 17, August 18 and November 14 in 2026, and January 14, March 17 and April 24 next year.
According to the announcement, based on a notification received through the European Union’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed Safety (RASFF), the presence of an allergen (gluten) not indicated on the product label was detected during company self-checks in the corn snack product originating from the Philippines. The Dutch importer (Heuschen & Schrouff) has initiated a consumer recall of the affected items. The product was also shipped to Hungary.
The National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority has contacted the affected companies, and the companies, in cooperation with the NKFH, are taking the necessary measures within their own competence: they are withdrawing the affected items from circulation and recalling them from consumers.
