NKFH: no misleading values were found in the liquid absorption capacity of newborn diapers and sanitary napkins
A comprehensive examination of hygiene products, including newborn diapers and various sanitary napkins, found no misleading values in terms of the products’ liquid-absorbing capacity, the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) told MTI on Friday.
According to the statement, the authority conducted a comprehensive examination of diapers for babies, sanitary napkins and sanitary pads for adults, menstrual underwear, and incontinence pads to reveal their actual liquid-absorbing capacity and filter out any misleading product claims.
They pointed out that
The samples were taken in shopping malls, department stores, chain stores, drugstores, online stores and other retail outlets, which affected 60 products.
Among these were 14 normal day and 6 night sanitary napkins, 9 menstrual underwear, 10 normal sanitary napkins, 11 male and female incontinence pads, and 10 diapers.
According to the announcement, the NKFH laboratory determined the liquid-absorbing properties of the products using a self-developed method capacity.
It was found that normal daytime sanitary napkins can absorb between 14 and 45 milliliters, nighttime sanitary napkins 24 and 86 milliliters, menstrual underwear 6 and 16 milliliters, and normal sanitary pads 2 and 14 milliliters, so that each consumer can choose the product that best suits their life situation, purpose of use, or the most economical product within the product category.
The results ranged widely for normal male and female incontinence pads: the products had a liquid-binding capacity of between 44 and 340 milliliters, which the buyer can find out about when purchasing, as this is stated in the product manufacturer’s The label must inform him by law.
In the case of baby diapers, laboratory tests showed a liquid-binding capacity ranging from 77 to 395 milliliters. The detailed comparison table and report are available on the NKFH website, at nkfh.gov.hu..
The investigation also covered the claims on the product packaging and the authenticity of certificates, which is still ongoing. The manufacturer must prove the validity of the claims, and if the NKFH reveals deception or irregularities, official proceedings will be initiated.
It was emphasized,
the NKFH considers it important that hygiene products available on the market meet real consumer expectations and that manufacturers display accurate, verifiable information on the packaging.
The authority’s goal is to enable consumers to make decisions based on real, comparable data, and to ensure fair competition between manufacturers by filtering out misleading claims.
The NKFH will continue to regularly inspect products widely used by consumers in the future and is committed to ensuring that customers receive safe and quality goods – the authority’s statement reads.
