NIS2 cybersecurity milestone: new challenges and fines await organizations
Although less than a month has passed since the NIS2 registration deadline, the next cybersecurity milestone is already approaching, posing an even greater challenge for NIS2-affected organizations. Indeed, from October 18, 2024, they must apply the cyber security measures included in the recently published executive decree. And companies that do not meet the NIS2 requirements risk a fine of up to HUF 10 million!
More than 3,000 NIS2 registrations were received by the Supervisory Authority for Regulated Activities (SZTFH) by the deadline at the end of June, although according to market estimates, the number of companies affected by NIS2 may reach 6,000.
Organizations that are not part of the scope of NIS2 stakeholders, but have submitted registration, received relatively quick feedback from the supervisory authority. However, many people contact the RSM experts with questions such as why they have not received an answer about the success of their NIS2 registration, when they can expect feedback from the authority.
We believe that the late feedback is caused by the lack of a registry of the cyber security auditor, because Kibertan tv. (Act XXIII of 2023 on Cyber Security Certification and Cyber Security Supervision), the relevant organization is obliged to enter into an agreement with the registered auditor within 120 days after its registration.
