NGM: tourism is soaring, guest traffic increased by 17 percent in November
Domestic tourism set new records in November 2024: the number of guests increased by 17 percent to 1.2 million, and the number of guest nights increased by 10 percent to 2.8 million compared to the previous year – the Ministry of National Economy (NGM) drew attention to the latest statistical data on Monday.
According to data from the Central Statistical Office (KSH) and the National Tourism Data Service Center (NTAK), 1.2 million guests arrived at Hungarian accommodation facilities in November 2024, i.e. guest traffic increased by nearly 17 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
Families are able to travel more and more, the number of domestic guests increased by 10 percent to 607 thousand. Hungary is also an increasingly attractive tourist destination internationally, with the number of visitors to our country from abroad increasing by 23 percent to 639 thousand
– they wrote.
They added that in November, domestic accommodation establishments registered more than 2.8 million guest nights, which was nearly 10 percent more than the previous year. The number of guest nights spent by domestic guests increased by 4 percent to 1.3 million, while the number of guest nights related to foreigners increased by 15 percent to 1.6 million.
The Ministry of Tourism also recalled that nearly 54 percent of the country’s total accommodation turnover, or more than 1.5 million nights, was registered in the countryside. Nearly 72 percent of guest nights spent outside the capital were related to domestic guests.
Lake Balaton once again proved to be the most visited destination in November. This represents an important step towards making the Balaton tourist area – primarily based on the interest and trust of Hungarian guests – an attractive and popular tourist destination all year round.
46.3 percent of accommodation turnover was registered in Budapest, and the number of guest nights spent in the capital increased by 20 percent to 1.3 million in November compared to the previous year.
