Netrisk: average travel insurance premiums increased by 1.5 percent in the summer season
The average premium for travel insurance increased by 1.5 percent year-on-year in this summer season, Netrisk told MTI on Monday, based on its own data.
The average premium for the three summer months was nearly 13,500 forints, compared to 13,200 forints a year earlier, the insurance broker reported.
More than 151,000 travel insurance policies were taken out with Netrisk this summer season, an increase of 9.1 percent year-on-year. The average duration of trips and the number of people traveling together decreased by 1-2 percent, thus continuing the trend that was already noticeable earlier, they reported.
The most popular travel destination remains Croatia, with these contracts accounting for 28 percent of travel insurance policies taken out with Netrisk, and 117,000 people insured their trips there. Italy and Austria are at the top with 20 and 11 percent, respectively, and Greece and Slovenia with 8 and 6 percent shares.
55 percent of insurance policies taken out at Netrisk were for car trips, while 35 percent were for air travel. Most people went on vacation to Italy, Greece and Spain by plane. 97 percent of those traveling to European destinations took out insurance for a maximum of two weeks.
There was little change in payment habits, with 94 percent of insurance policies being paid for with a bank card, which indicates the increasing popularity of online administration, Netrisk noted.
